About me:
Credentials:
M.A., CCC#11242406
My name is Tyler Fong. I have had the privilege of being born and raised here on the island, moving to the prairies for a number of years while chasing my personal goals. I was drawn to the field of counselling as a way to give back to the community and help those in need of support. My personal experiences and passions have led me here and I am grateful for the opportunities to come.
In my sessions, I work to provide a welcoming, non-judgmental, and confidential environment to facilitate exploration and processing. My experiences have taught me that it can be easy to fall into cycles that keep us stuck while our lives continue to move forward. Working to better understand and identify our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours can help break these vicious cycles. From this, we can utilize your strengths, set goals, build resiliency, and develop tools to help you move forward. I like to use an integrated approach, which allows us to collaborate on what will be most helpful for you and what will suit your needs. My approach includes client-centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based practices. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, addictions, identity, and athletes.
I have completed an M.A. in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Manitoba. During my time in Manitoba, I was a student-athlete, Academic All-Canadian, and co-facilitated peer-support groups for stress, anxiety, depression, time management, and student-athletes.
